After graduating from high school in Cincinnati, Iowa, Norman enlisted in the United States Navy in 1959 where he proudly served his country, stationed in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, until honorable discharge in 1967 as an Engineman 2nd Class. While stationed in Hawaii, he met Kay Dawson and the couple were married there in 1965. To this union, four children were born. After discharge, Norman was ready to move back closer to home, so the family relocated to Centerville. He started working at Union Carbide and remained there through some of the company's changes, retiring in 1999 after it had become Viskase. Norman had a wide variety of hobbies. He loved NASCAR and woodworking and could always be found tinkering with his yard or in his garage. He took special pride in his Halloween and Christmas displays. Norman loved to see the enjoyment they brought to children and adults alike. He also enjoyed drawing and playing solitaire. Above all, Norman enjoyed his family. Playing games with his children and grandchildren made him especially happy. He absolutely adored his grandchildren and would do anything for them. Norman is survived by his loving wife, Kay, of 55 years; children: Steven (Syrel) Guffey, Robert (Anne) Guffey, Michelle (Mitch) Cairns and Diana Young; grandchildren: C.J.
