Norma Wellen's Obituary
Norma Wellen (or "Maggie" as she was known to her family) age 94, of Centerville, passed away on July 2, 2019 at Golden Age. Norma was born on August 5, 1924 in Moulton, Iowa to Ernest and Edna (Jay) Stansberry. After graduating from Moulton High School in 1942, Norma moved to Des Moines where she was a bookkeeper at Flynn Dairy before marrying Robert Wellen in 1956. While still in Des Moines, the couple worked at KRNT Theatre where they ran a concession stand; which worked out perfectly to accommodate her love of "real" country music. They also had a concession stand at the state fair. Years later, Bob's construction business took them to Hallsville, Missouri where they resided for several years. The pair then moved to Texas near the Rio Grande Valley and operated a citrus grove while Bob continued his construction career. Following retirement, Norma and Bob moved back to the Midwest. Norma enjoyed flowers, classic country music, winters back in Texas where she attended several jam sessions with friends and making homemade jellies and jams. Her creations won several blue ribbons at the fair. Norma is survived by her sister, Doris Morrow; stepchildren: Don and Judy; brother-in-law, Bill Wellen and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Bob and brother, Marvin Stansberry. Graveside services will be held at Hilltown Cemetery near Moulton at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, July 6, 2019. Visitation will be held at Thomas Funeral Home in Centerville prior to the graveside from 10-11:00 a.m. Memorials may be made to EveryStep Hospice and online condolences may be shared at www.thomasfh.com or facebook.com/thomasfuneralhome To send flowers or a memorial gift to the family of Norma Wellen please visit our Sympathy Store.
