Norma Evans' Obituary
Norma Evans, age 94 and a lifelong resident of Appanoose County died Monday, August 8, 2022 with her children by her side.
She was born March 30, 1928 near Moravia, Iowa to John and Hila (McDonald) Horstman. Norma graduated from Moravia High School in 1945, and upon graduation began working at Iowa Southern Utilities Company in Centerville.
On July 25, 1948 she married Robert Evans and to this union two children were born, Vickie and Greg. Bob died February 1, 1990.
Norma and Bob farmed for several years near Cincinnati and then moved to Centerville in 1982, and she began working for St. Josephs Hospital until her retirement in 1993. Upon retirement, she enjoyed traveling both within and outside of the United States and when not traveling, she was an avid reader.
She is survived by her son, Greg Evans of Waukee, Iowa, and a daughter, Vickie (Roy) Spurgeon of Centerville; three grandchildren, Ami (Scott) Wisdom of Parkville, Missouri, Brett (Rita) Spurgeon of Parkville, Missouri, and Stephen Spurgeon of Moulton, Iowa; three great-grandchildren, Jack and Lauren Wisdom and Claire Spurgeon; a nephew, Kenny Long and a niece, Marie Padget.
Norma was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; a sister, Mary Long and her husband, Bill; a niece and three nephews.
Graveside services will be held at 11 AM, Thursday, August 11, 2022 at Haines Cemetery north of Centerville with Pastor Christy Ehrle officiating. A visitation will take place Thursday, August 11, 2022 at Lange Funeral Home and Crematory in Centerville, with the family receiving friends from 9-10:30 AM. In lieu of flowers, memorials have been established to either EveryStep Hospice of Centerville, Womens Auxiliary of Mercy Medical Center-Centerville, or to the Drake Public Library (Dolly Partons Imagination Library) and may be mailed to Lange Funeral Home and Crematory, 1900 S. 18th St., Centerville, IA, 52544.
