Neva McKee's Obituary
Neva Louise McKee, 95, of Centerville passed away Monday, May 29, 2017 at Centerville Specialty Care. Neva was born to Dewey & Mary Ellen (Hughes) Mattly on May 30, 1921 in Promise City, Iowa. On December 24, 1940, Neva was united in marriage to Perry Cecil McKee in Seymour. After Perry's passing in 1976, Neva would again get married to William Beeman on January 29, 1979 in Miami, Oklahoma. He preceded her in death in 1992. Neva attended rural schools in Wayne County and graduated from Corydon High School in May 1939. She would further her education through her life, graduating from Centerville Community College in 1955 and later from Graceland College in 1978. Throughout her life, Neva taught children for over 40 years. She started in country schools and retired from Corydon Elementary School in 1986. Neva never had biological children, but considered all the kids she taught over the years to be her own. Neva received Christ in 1937. She was a former member of the Baptist Church in Corydon and then transferred to Seymour Baptist Church. Neva was a 4-H Leader for girls in Walnut Township, Seymour, she also belonged to Rebekah Lodge in Seymour and served as an officer and as Noble Grand. Along with teaching, Neva helped Perry on the farm, raising hogs, chickens, sheep and cattle. Neva loved animals, gardening, working with her flowers and loved her dogs. Survivors include four nephews: David Large of Kerrville, TX, Tom Tometich (Helen) of Prole, Iowa, Tim Tometich of Promise City, Iowa, nieces: Jennifer Bobbitt of Silver Spring, Maryland, Carolyn Moreno (Manuel) of St. Hedwig, TX. She is also survived by many great nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Neva was preceded in death by her husbands, parents, two sisters, Duwala Large, Coy Tometich and two infant brothers, Dewey Wayne Mattly and Willie Everett Mattly. Funeral service will be 2:00 p.m., Saturday, June 3, 2017 at Thomas Funeral Home in Corydon. Interment will immediately follow in Corydon Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m., Friday, June 2, 2017 at Thomas Funeral Home in Corydon. Memorials may be given to the Promise City Community Building. Condolences may be shared at www.thomasfh.com.
