Nancy Cheryl White's Obituary
Nancy Cheryl White, age 64, of Centerville, passed away Wednesday, June 1, 2022 at the Homestead of Centerville.
Nancy was born on March 31, 1958 in Waverly, Iowa, the daughter of Burton and Marlis (Dickman) Strike. She graduated from Newton High School with the Class of 1976. Nancy continued her education at the University of Northern Iowa, earning a bachelors degree in Education. She later received a masters degree in the education field while teaching.
On August 1, 1981, Nancy was united in marriage to Jeff White at St. Marys Catholic Church in Centerville. To this union, two children were born, Jason and Cheryl.
As a longtime educator, Nancy taught mainly 4th grade students at Lakeview Elementary School in Centerville. She always had a way to make every student feel wanted and special the moment they walked through the door. In 2016, Nancy retired from the Centerville Community School District following a teaching career spanning over 30 years.
Nancy was a loving mother, and lived for her children. They were the most important thing in her life. Additionally, she enjoyed gardening, reading, scrapbooking and taking care of the familys farm animals. She loved traveling, especially to state parks, as well as watching the New York Yankees. Nancy was a proud, long-time member of St. Marys Catholic Church in Centerville.
Left to cherish Nancys memory include her children, Jason (Lacey) White of Centerville and Cheryl (Zach) Finch of Des Moines; her parents, Burton and Marlis Strike of Newton; a brother, Jeff (Lori) Strike of Newton; sister-in-law Joni Strike of Arkansas; Jeff White of Centerville; her grandchildren, Liam White, Ella White, Dylan Finch and Knox Finch; as well as several close friends and extended family members.
Nancy was preceded in death by her brother, Scott Strike.
Cremation has been accorded. A Mass in Nancys memory will be held at 10AM, Saturday, June 11, 2022 at St. Marys Catholic Church in Centerville with Fr. Timothy Armbruster officiating. Inurnment will follow the service at Oakland Cemetery in Centerville. Visitation will take place Saturday, June 11, 2022 at St. Marys Catholic Church in Centerville, with the family greeting friends from 9-10AM.
