Nancy Rose Hoffman's Obituary
Nancy Rose Hoffman, age 67 of Centerville, passed away, Friday, November 11, 2016 at Mercy Medical Center in Centerville.
She was born on July 18, 1949 in Centerville, Iowa, the daughter of Andrew and Winnie (Howe) Ragona. Nancy was united in marriage to Wayne Hoffman on March 28, 1966. To this union of marriage, five children were born, Bob, Michael, Michelle, Wendy, and Drew.
In 1964 Nancy began working at the Double R Dairy Bar at the age of thirteen. She dedicated much of her life to the family business, hand pounding hundreds of thousands of tenderloins throughout the years. She retired from the family business in 2014 at the age of 65.
Nancy was a dedicated wife, mother, and grandmother. She cherished her children and grandchildren, never missing an opportunity to attend their numerous sporting events, 4-H Shows, and horse shows throughout the years. In her earlier years she was active as the 4-H leader of the Rough Riders.
Nancy also possessed a love for animals, especially horses and cats. Her love of horses began at an early age when her dad would take her down into the coal mine shafts at a young age to tend to the coal mine ponies in winter. She would often tell the story when the ponies would run and buck in the fresh grass when they were let out each Spring. She also would never miss an opportunity to watch her grandkids show horses. Nancy spent countless hours writing down the scores and times of each participant at barrel races and rodeos.
She was also an avid fan of NASCAR, always rooting for Dale Earnhardt Jr.
Nancy is survived by her husband of fifty years, Wayne Hoffman of Centerville, Iowa; her mother, Winnie Ragona of Centerville; five children, Bob Hoffman, Michael (Vicki) Hoffman of Centerville, Michelle Sands of Centerville, Wendy (Jason) McElvain of Centerville, and Drew (Shalee) Hoffman of Centerville; eleven grandchildren, Jordan Woodward, Kelsey Fisk, Tyler Shanahan, Sabrina Sands, Damon Hoffman, Payden Hoffman, R.J. McElvain, Alyssa McElvain, Shadoh Hoffman, Avin Hoffman, and Alfonze Hoffman; four great grandchildren; two uncles, Joe (Peggy) Ragona of Donahue, Iowa and Jim (the Late Bev) Howe of Ottumwa, Iowa; and two aunts, Jeanie (the Late Terry) Farley of Davenport, Iowa and Peggy (the Late Glenn) Howe of Centerville, Iowa.
