Nancy Dubay-Mixon's Obituary
Born on January 28, 1955, in Omaha, Nebraska, and a resident of Corydon from 1959-2008, Mike passed away suddenly yet peacefully in her home in Des Moines, Iowa, on Monday, December 7, 2015. She was 60 years young. A member of the Wayne Community High School, Class of â??73, she earned her degree in Dental Hygiene from Des Moines Area Community College in 1978. Mike then worked in Iowa, Virginia, and back in Iowa in Corydon at the Wayne County Dental Clinic. In 2007, she retired and made Des Moines her new home. In 1987, and in loving honor of one of her mother's childhood memories, "Debbie" changed her name to Nancy Michael DuBay-Mixon, and went by the nickname of "Mike" ever since. With everything Mike did or had, there was a reason for its relevance, and usually a cool story, too. Those who asked of her many joys in life could hear the passion that stirred her. Just like when she ran in the Old Settler's 5 Mile Run in 1988 while carrying her first and only child, Mike's determination, compassion, humor, and dear heart were delightfully infectious to those who best knew her. In addition to her long-time love for elephants, movies, and music, Mike followed another passion and became an active member of the Iowa Button Society for several years. She won numerous awards for her creative designs and displays. Mike's email moniker, Olive Oyl, from Popeye fame was, for many reasons, perhaps one of the truest things to know about her. Mike is survived by her husband, Danny Mixon (Senior Chief Petty Officer, US Navy, Retired), their one son, Randy (both of Des Moines), as well as her parents, Normajean and Bob DuBay (Fresno, CA), and her three siblings - Paul DuBay (San Antonio, TX), Denise Faulkner (husband Matthew Faulkner, daughters Chelsie and Sophie, Oakhurst, CA), and Jerry DuBay (son Tristin, Des Moines, IA). Her special heart shall be greatly missed by those whose lives she blessedly touched. Instead of cards or flowers, please honor her in a way you feel comfortable. Suggestions include; a prayer of support, remember her in a conversation with a friend or family member, or make a donation to your choice of charity. Funeral service will be Saturday, December 12, 2015 @ 1:30 pm at Thomas-Randolph Funeral Home in Corydon with family greeting friends from 12:30 pm until time of service.
