Myrna Shubat's Obituary
Myrna Irene Shubat, 93, passed away peacefully on Monday, August 27, 2018 at Centerville Specialty Care. Myrna was born to Earl and Amy (Bramer) Smith in Grand River, Iowa on September 29, 1924 where she joined her brother, Harold. Myrna endured the depression years, attended country grade school and proudly graduated from Seymour High School in 1942. She caught the eye of a handsome young man at a candy supper at Livingston Church named Charles "Jay" Shubat. She and Jay married in June of 1944 in Franklin Township before beginning their farming operation. Gardening, chickens, dairy cows, hogs, crops and haying occupied her days; all while maintaining the household, being a 4-H leader and raising two children: Stephen and Pamela. During the farm crisis of the 1980's, Myrna and Jay moved to the Phoenix area and began managing a mini storage facility. Over the years they were also able to take a few cruises, an Alaskan Cruise being a highlight. Myrna would often reminisce fondly about roller skating, working the Iowa State Fair and square dancing with Jay. Myrna was a perfectionist; which showed in her hobbies of stain glass crafting as well as skillful and beautiful sewing and quilting projects. Myrna is survived by her son, Stephen (Debbie) Shubat; daughter, Pamela (David) Swanson; grandchildren: Michael (fiance Leslie Gallaway and Kierra) Swanson and Suzanne (Tim) Beckmann and great grandchildren: Jayden and Lydia Beckmann. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jay; parents and her brother, Harold Smith. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 30, 2018 at Thomas Funeral Home in Seymour. Interment will immediately follow at Southlawn Cemetery. Visitation will take place one hour before services from 1:00-2:00 p.m. Memorials may be made to Care Initiatives Hospice and online condolences may be shared at www.thomasfh.com To send flowers or a memorial gift to the family of Myrna Shubat please visit our Sympathy Store.
