MRS BERNITA JUNE LEAZER Obituary's Obituary
Bernita June Achor Leazer, the only child of Linton and Zella Nee Hellyer Achor, was born June 15, 1927 on a farm west of Promise City, Iowa. She departed from this life on January 1, 2015 at the age of 87, at the Corydon Nursing and Rehab Center, with her son Mike, sitting by her side. Bernita's family lived the second road north of Promise City and she went to South Salem country school. When Bernita was a child she was one of the first to survive Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever. She lived in Wayne County, Iowa almost her entire life except for two years when she resided in Rockford, Illinois. Bernita worked at a glove factory in Corydon. On July 4, 1949 Bernita married Harold L. Leazer in Corydon, Iowa and to this union their son, Michael was born. Bernita cared for her father and mother-in-law in her home when they became elderly. Bernita and Harold loved going camping with family and friends and they spent a winter in Arizona. Bernita collected dolls and had over 100 on display at her home. She loved animals and had several pets during her life time. Bernita was a very talented seamstress and her hobbies included dressmaking, quilting, crocheting, water color painting, drawing, gardening and she was an excellent cook. Bernita accepted Jesus as her Lord and Savior at early age. She was very active at the Corydon Bible Church, where she was known as the 'candy lady' giving treats to the children in her church. Bernita was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary. Bernita was a loving and devoted wife and mother. She was a special aunt, cousin and friend and she will always be remembered for her great memory of history and stories of family and friends. Her parents and her husband preceded her in death. Bernita is survived by her son, Michael, cousins Darlene Gotheridge, Lyle Hellyer, Sallyann Achor, Ann (Jim) Achor- Finlaw, Ralph (Sandra) Achor, Raymond (Debra) Achor, Nieces JoBeth (Gary) Trimble and Linda Jean Arriaga, nephews Steve (Mary) Leazer and Bob (Carolyn) Barbour, Gary Booher and Dean (Joyce) Booher.
