Mrs. "Granny" Prunty's Obituary
Sarah Elaine "Granny" Prunty was born April 4, 1925, in Bethany, Missouri, to Alice Belle (Hunt) Burton and Elmus Riley Burton. Elaine passed away Tuesday, April 12, 2011. She married John Leuty Prunty Jr. on April 9, 1944, at the Burton family home south of Monroe, Iowa. Elaine was a homemaker but she worked at many interesting locations: Yocom Hospital, Lucas County Treasurer's Office, JC Penney, Lucas County Hospital, and Piper's Candy. She was a long-time member of the Chariton Christian Disciples of Christ Church and enjoyed being a member of Corydon United Methodist Church after moving to Corydon. Elaine was an active member of The United Methodist Women, Martha Circle. She thought the world of the ladies in her circle. Granny was also a member of Laplander's Quilt Guild, Morning Writer's, Friendly Farmer's Club, and MIOWA Rebekah's Chapter 146 and volunteering at Corydon Head Start in Miss Linda's class. Those left to honor Elaine's memory are Burton and Linda Prunty of Allerton, IA, and Lynn and Nancy Prunty of Healdsburg, CA. Grandsons include Scott, Brent (Tammy), Justin, Tim (Mindy), Jay (Mirna), and Ryan. Great-grandchildren are Colton, Connor, Akaylee, Olivia, Kenton, Kinsey, Joey, and Sammy, due in May. Elaine was preceded in death by husband John, brother Elmus Burton, sister Mary Burton, and grandson Michael Prunty. Special Corydon friends are Janice and Gerald Duerksen. Long-time friends include Marvin and Betty Pierschbacher; Ruth Edwards; the Kerns family: Jim, Anne, Jill and Mike; and a host of many other relatives and friends.
