Monarde Chamberlin's Obituary
Monarde (Hanks) Chamberlin passed away on June 13, 2005 of natural causes. She was born April 30, 1907, in Des Moines, Iowa. Monarde attended East High School and during the late 1920's worked in downtown Des Moines and as a telephone operator for Northwestern Bell. She married George William (Bill) Chamberlin on February 11th, 1928 in Indianola, Iowa. After settling in Centerville, Iowa, Monarde spent several of her earlier years serving on the Newcomers Club and the Benevolent, Patriotic Order of Does. She was a member of the Methodist Church and until her sight failed enjoyed bridge clubs with many good friends. Preceding her in passing were her husband ""Bill"" Chamberlin, her mother, Flora (Siverly) Hanks, her father, Walter Pearl Hanks, siblings, Russell Franklin Hanks, Lois Margaret (Hanks) Hendrex, Harriet Elizabeth (Hanks) Upchurch, Gracy Hanks, Evelyn Kathryn (Hanks) Peel, Sophia Hanks, Robert Walter Hanks and nephew, Robert Paul Peel. Surviving her passing are nieces, Modine Evelyn (Upchurch) Hott, Margo Ellen (Upchurch) Grady, Marilyn Elizabeth Upchurch Bird, and nephew, Dennis Hanks. Also surviving are one grand niece and 5 grand nephews who all lovingly call her ""Aunt Minnie"". At Monarde's request no services are to be arranged. Her remains will be interred next to her husband of 50 years at Oakland Cemetery in Centerville, Iowa. The Thomas Lange Funeral Home, Centerville, Iowa will forward any correspondence to the family.
