Miriam L. Horstman's Obituary
Miriam Lucille (McConnell) Horstman, age 89 of Osceola died Saturday, May 8, 2010 at Blackhawk, Colorado while visiting the Denver area.
She was born May 5, 1921 in Centerville, Iowa, the daughter of Ruth Terrance and Ira McConnell. Miriam married Walter William Horstman June 27, 1942 at Unionville, MO. He preceded her in death April 18, 1978. She graduated from Centerville High School and Centerville Community College (Indian Hill Community College). She taught many years at the Clarkdale rural school, teaching kindergarten through the 8th grade. And then 3rd and 4th grades at the Moravia Community Schools. She was a member of the Russell United Methodist Church, Russell, Iowa, First Methodist Church, Centerville, Iowa and the Osceola Methodist Church, Osceola, Iowa. She was a member of the Iowa Teachers Association, National Teachers Assoc. and Daughters of the American Revolution. She was an avid bowler and enjoyed crocheting and sewing.
She is survived by a daughter Elizabeth (Kent) Davis of Thornton, CO ; 2 grandchildren Misha (Rob)Grodt and Heather (Mark)Han, adopted grandson Joe Hyde, great grandchildren, Graycen Han, Kyle Hyde, Katie Hyde, Taylor Hyde and Jaycie Hyde. She is also survived by bother Robert McConnell (Pat) San Antonio, TX, sister Wauneita McConnell, Indianola, IA and many nieces, great nieces, nephews and great nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband Walter Horstman, parents Ira Newman and Ruth Elizabeth McConnell, brother Lowell McConnell, Centerville, Iowa, sisters Joan Norton, Russell, Iowa and Erma Scritchfield, Osceola, Iowa.
Funeral services will be held 2PM Saturday, May 15, 2010 at Lange Funeral Home, Centerville with Pastor Hugh Stone of Osceola, Iowa officiating. Visitation will be from 6-8 PM Friday evening at the funeral home. Burial will be the Oakland Cemetery, Centerville. A memorial has been established to the American Heart Assoc.
