Minnie Berner's Obituary
Minnie Amelia Schable Lund Berner was born July 14, 1926 in Danbury, Iowa, to Carl and Frieda Weifenbach Schable. She passed away Monday, December 24, 2018, at Wayne County Hospital in Corydon, Iowa, at the age of ninety-two years, five months, and 10 days. She married Lester Raymond Lund on March 16, 1948 in Mapleton, Iowa. Minnie and Lester were blessed with two daughters, Patricia and Debra. They celebrated 18 years of marriage until Lester passed away in 1966 after moving to Seymour, Iowa in 1964 to be Manager of the local Co-op. Minnie was bookkeeper of the local Co-op and also worked at Al's Cafe in Seymour until she married Raymond Berner on September 6, 1969. Two families were united and Minnie gained another daughter, Pamela, and three sons, Kim, Paul, and John. Minnie dedicated herself and her life to her family. She enjoyed spending her time gardening; crafting; playing cards with neighbors, family, and friends; cooking for anyone who stopped by; and giving to others. Minnie had a special talent of making work seem fun with her kids. She could never get tired of shopping and especially loved shopping for the grandkids for Christmas. Minnie loved decorating her home for all the seasons and having the family gather for the Holidays. One of her favorite Holiday activities was to decorate Easter eggs and have the grandkids (no matter their age) hunt them. She also looked forward to spending time with family at Lake Thunderhead in Unionville, Missouri. Minnie enjoyed watching cardinals and hummingbirds and taking care of her houseplants, with some of her favorites being orchids and violets. She was involved with clubs in the neighborhood and was a member of First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Centerville, Iowa. In November, 2016, Minnie moved into Care Initiatives nursing facility in Corydon, Iowa where she lived until going to the hospital on December 13, 2018. Minnie was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Lester; two brothers, Carl Schable and Louis Schable; and two sisters, Doris Jepsen and Louise Krueger. Survivors include husband, Raymond Berner of Seymour, Iowa; two daughters, Patricia (David) Mason of Corydon, Iowa, and Debra (Craig) Sebolt of Seymour, Iowa; one step-daughter, Pamela (Brad) Young of Centerville, Iowa; and three step-sons, Kim (Jan) Berner of Albia, Iowa, Paul (Cathy) Berner of Flint, Texas, and John (Robyn) Berner of Beebe, Arkansas; 11 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren. Funeral service will be 11:00 am, Tuesday, January 1, 2019 at Thomas Funeral Home in Corydon. Visitation will be one hour prior to service from 10-11 am at the funeral home. Interment will be 11:30 am, Wednesday, January 2, 2019 at Oto Cemetery in Oto, Iowa.
