Milford W. Hornaday's Obituary
Milford W. Hornaday, age 84, of Patterson, Iowa and a former resident of Udell, Iowa, died Friday, May 20, 2011 at Mercy Hospital in Des Moines, Iowa. He was born the son of Everett Newton and Maude Lorena (Sharpnack) Hornaday on October 31, 1926 in Appanoose County near Moulton, Iowa. He attended Bee Trace Country School, and later graduated from the Seymour High School in Seymour, Iowa in 1943.He served his country in United States Army from February 4, 1946 until his honorable discharge on April 3, 1947. On January 30, 1949, Milford was united in marriage to Freda Gorden in Udell, Iowa. He was a District Manager for the Des Moines Register for many years, and later became a Rural Mail Carrier for the Postal Service in New Virginia, Iowa. He enjoyed raising and showing Suffolk Sheep, Dairy Goats and especially Limousin Cattle. After his retirement from the Postal Service, Milford would return to the Gorden ancestral farm near Udell, Iowa. He was a member of the National Limousin Association, Iowa Limousin Association, a 4-H leader for over 10 years, American Legion in Unionville, Iowa and was a past Warren County Fair Sheep and Goat Barn Superintendent in Indianola, Iowa. He was also a member of the Christian Church in New Virginia, Iowa.He was preceded in death by: his parents, two daughters, Kathryn Sue and Julie Ann Hornaday; two grandsons, Ricky Lynn Haggard and Christopher Scott Senn; one great granddaughter, Brenna Geane Haggard; a brother, Everett Hornaday; and a sister, Lois Mason.Milford is survived by: his wife, Freda Hornaday of Patterson, Iowa; a son, Steven Wayne Hornaday of Sumter, South Carolina; daughters, Janice Marie and her husband, Dean Anderson of New Virginia, Iowa, Barbara Louise and her husband, Bill Haggard of Port Byron, Illinois, Ruth Ellen Ewing of Patterson, Iowa and Rita Kay Hanson of Hampton, Illinois; seven grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, May 24, 2011 at 11 am at the Schmidt Family Funeral Home in Centerville, Iowa with Rev. Carl Heien officiating. Burial with full military honor at the Fairview Cemetery south of Unionville, Iowa. Visitation will be held on Monday, May 23, 2011 from 1 pm until 6 pm at the Schmidt Family Funeral Home, the family will be present on Tuesday, from 10 am until the time of services at the funeral home.Memorials can be made to the Fairview Cemetery and left at or mailed to the funeral home.
