Miles Alvin Snider's Obituary
Miles Alvin Snider, was born to Samuel and Myrtle (Stroud) Snider, on July 31, 1924, southwest of Seymour, Iowa. He graduated from Seymour high School in 1942. He went into the service PFC (Private First Class) World War II Infantry, on February 24, 1944. He was a rifleman overseas from October, 1944, until he was wounded in action. His foreign service was for 4 months, 23 days, when he was wounded in France Middle East Theatre. He spent three months in the hospital in Africa Middle East Theater Ribbon. He was awarded with the Battle Star, Medal of Honor Purple Heart. He was then flown to Winter General Hospital in Topeka, Kansas. He received a Record Disability Discharge in October, 1945. He was a member of the Disabled Veterans.
Miles was united in marriage to Alberta Darrah on October 23, 1948 and they enjoyed 70 wonderful years together. In this union one son was born Howard Snider. She preceded him in death on February 1, 2019.
Miles was a member of the Seymour American Legion Post 180, for 68 years. He served as Legion Commander. He served at many military funerals. He was a member of Wayne County Farm Bureau and also served on the Wayne County ASCS Committee. He also took the Wayne and Monroe census. He was a Board member of the Seymour Community Center,
Miles was a baptized member of the Seymour Methodist church. He enjoyed the breakfasts the men had at the church on Thursdays mornings. He enjoyed traveling, taking many bus trips making it to all four corners of the United States. In the winter months he enjoyed going to Texas, Arizona, California and a trip to Hawaii. He attended the World's Fair in Knoxville, Tennessee, boat rides on the Mississippi River, and went to Washington D.C. to see the cherry blossoms.
He is survived by his son, Howard and wife Cynthia Snider of Seymour. Granddaughters, Ann Perrin of Bondurant Iowa, and Jill (Justin) Dell of Centerville. Great-grandchildren Kinser and Kiernan Perrin of Bondurant and Jocelyn and Jazmyn Dell of Centerville. Three sister-in-laws: Helen Snider of Corydon, Deloris Darrah, of Centerville and Florence Darrah of Seymour and brother-in-law, Gene Gibbs of Promise City. He also is survived by many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and his in-laws, Roy and Vera Darrah, his brothers and sisters-in-laws, Milo Snider, Billie and Marilyn Snider, Harold and Donna Snider and Bennie and Marilyn Snider. Also his brother-in-law's and sister-in-laws: Dalton (Dike) and Thelma Darrah, Eugene Darrah and Duane (Tate) Darrah and a great-granddaughter, Jacqueline Dell.
Funeral services for Miles will be held at 11AM, Tuesday, March 7, 2023 at Thomas Funeral Home in Seymour. Visitation will take place Tuesday, March 7, 2023 from 10AM to 11AM at Thomas Funeral Home in Seymour. Burial will follow the service at Southlawn Cemetery in Seymour.
