Mildred Lorene Rhodes' Obituary
Mildred Lorene Rhodes, 105, of Corydon, passed away on Tuesday, March 7, 2017 at Corydon Specialty Care. Mildred was born in Chapel, Missouri on September 23, 1911. She was one of three daughters born to Glen and Minnie (Hays) Latimer. She attended country school and then graduated from Corydon High School in 1930. While she was at home, she assisted her parents in their insurance business. After high school, Mildred went on to further her education at Drake University. Mildred was married to Vern Rhodes on April 21, 1933. They were the parents of two children, Norman Duane and Verna Lorene. They spent most of their married life living on the farm. Mildred enjoyed helping others. She loved to help her husband on the farm and especially loved to work with the farm animals, especially the babies. She also worked as a home health aide for many years. Vern and Mildred retired from farming and moved to Corydon in 1989. Vern passed away in 2007. Mildred accepted the Lord as her Savior and was baptized as a young girl. For many years she and her family attended Bethel Church near their farm home. Mildred enjoyed serving in church and also her neighborhood women clubs. When Vern and Mildred moved to town, they each became members of Corydon Christian Church. Preceding Mildred in death were her parents, husband, sisters; Thelma Lacey and Dorothy Engle, brothers-in-law; Joseph Engle, Harold Lacey and Loren Rhodes, and sister-in-law Mary Ellen Rhodes. Survivors include her son, Duane (Minnie) Rhodes; daughter, Verna (Larry) Wilkinson all of Corydon; grandchildren: Jesse (Linda) Rhodes of Plano, Leonard (Karmen) Wilkinson of Bettendorf, Rodney (Robin) Wilkinson of Pensacola, FL and Laurean Keisling of El Paso, TX; two great grandchildren and four great great grandchildren as well as several nieces and nephews. Funeral service will be Friday, March 10, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at Thomas Funeral Home in Corydon with Pastor Jeff Hontz officiating. Interment will be immediately following the service at the Corydon Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service from 10:00 a.m-11:00 a.m. A luncheon will follow interment at the Corydon Christian Church.
