Mildred "Fern" Lowe's Obituary
Mildred 'Fern' Lowe, age 96, of Centerville, Iowa, died Thursday, June 4, 2015, at Mercy Hospital in Des Moines, Iowa. She was born on August 20, 1918 near Unionville, Iowa the daughter of Henry Ray and Amanda M. (Foster) Strunk. She attended the Unionville High School in Unionville, Iowa. She was first united in marriage to Ernest Warren Witt on June 26, 1937, they were later divorced. Then on September 30, 1963, Fern was united in marriage to Willie W. Lowe and they too, were later divorced. She worked for many years in the Laundry Department at St. Joseph's Mercy Hospital in Centerville. Fern loved being with family, home cooked meals and especially pie as she was a great cook, she always wanted to look her best at all times and would often tell her daughter not to forget to put on lipstick before going out.She was preceded in death by: her parents; brothers, Perl Strunk, Jack Strunk and Richard Strunk; sisters, Ruth Taylor, Lucille Gates and Daisy L. Morrison; a granddaughter, Kimberly Grew; and a son, within hour of Fern's death, Raymond Witt.Fern is survived by: her son, Paul Witt and his wife, Linda of Centerville, Iowa; a daughter, Loretta Linders and her husband, Richard of Eveleth, Minnesota; daughter-in-law, Janice Witt of Winnebago, Illinois; a sister, Edna Collins of Oskaloosa, Iowa; Nine grandchildren, twelve great grandchildren and five great great grandchildren.A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, June 9, 2015 at 7 pm at the Schmidt Family Funeral Home in Centerville, Iowa with Linzy Collins officiating. Burial will be at a later date at the Hillcrest Cemetery in Moravia, Iowa. Visitation will be held on Tuesday from 2 pm until 8 pm at the funeral home with the family present from 6 pm until 8 pm.Memorials can be made to Mercy Hospital Auxiliary and left or mailed to the funeral home.
