Mildred Van Dyke's Obituary
Mildred Van Dike, age 95, of Centerville, Iowa, died Saturday, February 14, 2009 at the Continental Care Center in Seymour, Iowa. She was born the daughter of Philip and Minerva (Mincks) Lewis on January 20, 1914 in Rathbun, Iowa. She graduated in 1932 from the Centerville High School in Centerville, Iowa.On May 27, 1962, Mildred was united in marriage to Ted Streepy in Lancaster, Missouri. She was employed at the Appanoose Telephone Company, City Hall, L&W Construction Company and Iowa State Highway Commission where she worked for over 36 years. On May 5, 1980, Mildred was then united in marriage to Kenneth Van Dike at Lake Tahoe, Nevada. She was a member of the Gospel Chapel in Centerville and a member of the Mercy Medical Center Hospital Auxiliary. She was also a longtime member of the BPW and was named the women of the year by the club in 1964. She was a sweet lady who loved everyone and loved to travel and will be greatly missed. She is preceded in death by: her parents; her 1st husband, Ted Streepy on March 17, 1977; 2nd husband, Kenneth Van Dike on October 29, 1997; brothers, John D. Lewis and Paul Lewis; sister, Edna Buckingham; a nephew, John David Lewis; as well as a sister-in-law, Margaret Lewis.Mildred is survived by: step-son, Gary Van Dike of Clear Lake, California; niece, Nancy Tietsort and her husband, Leroy of Unionville, Missouri; two great nephews, Mike Lewis and his wife, Tiena of Seymour, Iowa and John F. Tietsort and his wife, Susan of Indianapolis, Indiana; as well as a close neighbors, Bob and Beverly Hanson of Centerville, Iowa. Funeral services will be held at 11 am on Wednesday, February 18, 2009 at the Schmidt Family Funeral Home in Centerville, Iowa with Rev. Lloyd Johnston officiating. Burial will follow at the Oakland Cemetery in Centerville. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, February 17, 2009 from 1 pm till 4 pm at the Schmidt Family Funeral Home in Centerville. The family will be present from 9 am on Wednesday till the time of services at the funeral home.Memorials can be made to Continental at St. Joseph's Memory Care Unit and can be left at the funeral home.
