Mickey Louise Fry's Obituary
Mickey Louise Fry, age 72, of Corydon, passed away peacefully on March 22, 2025 surrounded by her loving family at Kavanagh House Hospice in Des Moines, Iowa. Born on January 2, 1953 in Chariton, Iowa, she dedicated most of her life as a nurse, wife, and friend.
Mickey graduated in 1988, from IHCC, with her Registered Nursing Degree. Over the years she worked with veterans, hospital patients, newborns, and then finally as a public health nurse and FaDSS worker. She loved working as a nurse, a profession that reflected her caring personality. She was known for her intelligence, sassy spirit, and determination. She was never afraid to tell you what was on her mind. Mick was always the biggest (and loudest) fan at all the girls' sporting events, showing her competitive spirit. She told Neelea and Jennifer many years after high school how she would put a "score points, block shots, do well" hex on their uniforms after she washed them.
Several of Neelea and Jennifer's friends recall coming out to the house when the girls were growing up to have fun at Luchenbach, swim in the ponds, play catch, shoot hoops, and just run around in the timber. At the end of the day, Mick always had a good meal for everyone and was part of the festivities. A huge lover of music, thanks to her dad, Mickey always had a spot on stage singing at Luchenbach and found joy in every note and lyric often sharing with family and friends. She loved serving the coyote hunters' food, listening and telling stories and just being part of the Luchenbach gang.
Mickey was gifted when it came to writing poetry and would often express her feelings by writing a poem for someone special. She always had a smile on her face and a twinkle in her eye. She was ornery and loved to have fun. She loved dogs and had several over the years. Bobo, her beagle, was her companion in life and now in eternity.
Mickey was a devoted wife for nearly 40 years to John. They travelled the world and made countless memories, including some very fun and memorable trips with all the grandkids.
She is survived by her husband, John. Her daughters Neelea Boell (Dean), Jennifer Nickell (David), stepchildren Stacy Glenn (Blake), Luke Fry (Wendy), grandchildren, Trey McMurry (Kelsey) Keyton Nickell (Alicia), Sawyer Nickell (Erika), Rylee Wells, Caroline Glenn, Jack Glenn, Hayden Fry, Jamison Visser, and Audi Visser. Great-grandchildren Zayden McMurry, Sullivan McMurry, and Easton Nickell, her sister, Terry Hook (Dave), brother-in-law Tom Fry (Kay), and sister-in-law Jane Burroughs (Jeff).
She was preceded in death by her parents, Dick and Marilyn Moore as well as her brother, Tom Moore, in-laws, Don and Jean Fry.
Mick was loved by so many and will be deeply missed.
Memorial Service for Mickey will be at 10:30 AM, Saturday, April 12, 2025 at Thomas Funeral Home in Corydon. In lieu of flowers and for the love of nursing, memorial donations can be made directly to Neelea Boell who, on behalf of the family, has established a memorial scholarship fund (The Mickey Lou Legacy in Nursing Fund) for future nursing students at Wayne Community High School, ATTN: Mickey Fry Family, 303 E.
