Michael Ransom Talley's Obituary
Michael Ransom Talley, 75, passed away peacefully on July 7, 2026, in Centerville, Iowa.
Born on March 5, 1951, in Omaha, Nebraska, Michael was the son of Ransom and Patricia Talley, who preceded him in death. He lived a life marked by curiosity, generosity, and a deep appreciation for knowledge, faith, and family.
Michael is survived by his sister, Kathy (Dean) Williams; his son, Peter (Amanda) Talley; his daughter, Christine Talley; his beloved grandson, Victor, his niece Jillian (Rocky) Robbins, nephews, Sean & Channon Ludwig, great nieces, Kennedy & Brynnley Robbins, & great nephew, Jacoby Robbins all of whom will forever cherish his memory.
A lifelong student of the natural world, Michael had a profound love of science, with a particular passion for botany and mycology. He found joy in learning about plants and fungi, always eager to share his knowledge with anyone willing to listen. He was also a book collector whose library reflected a wide-range of interests. One of Michael’s greatest pleasures was cooking. He enjoyed preparing meals for family and friends, expressing his care for others through the food he shared. Whether experimenting with a new recipe, discussing science, or spending time among his treasured books, Michael approached life with thoughtfulness and enthusiasm.
A faithful Roman Catholic, Michael found strength and comfort in his faith throughout his life. His beliefs helped shape his values of generosity and love for his family. Though he has left this earthly life, he will remain forever in the hearts of those who loved him. May he rest in the peace of Christ, and may perpetual light shine upon him.
Per wishes, cremation has been accorded. Services will be held at a later date in Council Bluffs, Iowa. In keeping with Michael's lifelong curiosity and fascination with science and discovery, memorial contributions may be directed to any scientific organization of the donor's choosing, and may be mailed to Thomas Funeral Home, ATTN: Talley Family, 501 North 18th Street, Centerville, Iowa 52544.
