Michael William Beall's Obituary
Michael (Mike) William Beall, 71, of Easton, Kansas, formerly of Kensington, Maryland, died Tuesday, January 4, 2005, at home. Mike was born July 25, 1933, the son of Olive F. (Bussard) and Louis C. Beall. He graduated from Gonzaga High School in Washington, D.C. and attended Georgetown University and the University of Maryland. He was a member of the Air National Guard and later the Army. He worked for the Washington Evening Star newspaper and FDIC. He married Victoria (Vicky) Stober on May 29, 1971, and moved to Leavenworth one year later where they and their children resided for the remainder of his life.Mike worked at the Federal Prison as a computer science instructor for 10 years and then as a systems analyst at Fort Leavenworth. After retiring, he worked for McCaffree-Short Title Company while also driving a bus for the Easton Bus Company and as weekend building patrol for the Leavenworth School System. He later worked for Premier Title Company.He was an avid sports fan and spent several years refereeing local high school basketball and football games. He also enjoyed playing softball and basketball. He spent several years coaching youth sports teams and supported high school sports programs. He was a member of St. Joseph of the Valley Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus. He was a religious instructor for young students, as well as a Eucharistic minister. He was a lifelong blood donor, a member of the Big Brother/Big Sister program, and a driver for Meals-On-Wheels.Mike was preceded in death by his parents; an older brother, James; and an older sister, Virginia.He is survived by his wife of 33 years, Vicky; his daughter, Jennifer Baptista and husband Le, Leavenworth, Kansas; and two sons, Andrew and wife Marlo, Union City, California; and Oliver and wife Rachel of Emmett, Kansas; two grandchildren Cynthia Beall and Trey Baptista; and brothers Louis Beall, Silver Spring, Maryland; John Beall, Rockville, Maryland; and Richard Beall, Cross Junction, Virginia.Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. with a rosary at 7 p.m. Thursday, January 6, 2005, at Belden-Sexton-Sumpter Funeral Chapel, Leavenworth (500 Oak St. 913-682-1614). A Mass of Christian Burial, officiated by Fr. John Ayang, SOLT, will be held at the St. Joseph of the Valley Catholic Church (31151 207th St.) at 10 a.m. Friday, January 7, 2005, with a family prayer and scripture service at Schmidt Family Funeral Home on Saturday, January 8, 2005, at 10:30 a.m. in Centerville, Iowa.
