Michael Glen Arnold's Obituary
Michael Glen Arnold, 62, passed away unexpectedly on June 11, 2026. A devoted father, proud Marine, outdoorsman, and lifelong leader, Michael lived a life defined by service, adventure, hard work, and an unwavering commitment to those around him.
A deeply private man, Michael carried himself with quiet strength and independence throughout his life. While he rarely spoke about his personal struggles, he faced life's challenges with determination and resilience. His passing came as a shock to the family and friends who loved him and leaves an immeasurable void in their lives.
Born on March 3, 1964, in Webster City, Iowa, to Glen and Rosemary Arnold, Michael grew up alongside his brothers on Iowa farms, where he developed a deep appreciation for hard work, family, and the outdoors. He spent countless hours hunting, fishing, and trapping, learning the value of perseverance along the way. Inspired by his father's love of nature, he carried that passion throughout his life. As a young man, he excelled in football, embracing the camaraderie, discipline, and purpose of being part of a team.
That commitment to teamwork became a guiding force throughout Michael's adult life. After attending Iowa Lakes Community College, he answered the call to serve and joined the United States Marine Corps. What began as a decision inspired by friends who had enlisted became a distinguished career spanning more than two decades. Michael served honorably as an Infantryman, completing multiple deployments around the world, including a combat tour in Afghanistan. Throughout his career, he served as a Drill Instructor, Senior Drill Instructor, Primary Marksmanship Instructor, Range Safety Officer, and Assistant Marine Officer Instructor at the University of Southern California.
Leadership seemed to follow Michael wherever he went. He believed in leading by example, holding himself and others to a high standard. His dedication to mentorship and teamwork left a lasting impact on countless Marines throughout his career. While serving at the University of Southern California, he also became an honorary strength and conditioning coach for the USC football program, combining two of his lifelong passions-leadership and the game he loved.
Following his retirement from active duty in 2005, Michael continued serving others as a Tactical Safety Specialist at Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton. He possessed a keen eye for detail, a deep respect for accountability, and a steadfast commitment to doing things the right way. Those who worked alongside him knew him as someone who valued responsibility, integrity, and service above all else.
Michael was always searching for the next adventure. He developed a passion for scuba diving early in his military career and was fortunate to explore waters around the world. He enjoyed motorcycles, jet skis, hunting trips, and any opportunity to be outdoors. Yet even in his pursuit of excitement and adventure, Michael was rarely content to do it alone. He loved being part of a team, building friendships, and sharing experiences with those around him.
Throughout his life, Michael shared a special bond with his dogs. They were more than pets-they were loyal companions, trusted sidekicks, and often his closest friends. Whether at home or outdoors, there was usually a dog by his side, and the companionship they provided brought him great comfort and joy.
Above all else, Michael cherished his family. He is survived by his daughters, Nicole Arnold; Danielle (Aaron) Hogland, his mother, Rosemary Arnold; his brothers, Tony (Kim) Arnold and Randy (Tami) Arnold; his nephews and nieces, Troy (Chandler) Arnold, Molly Arnold, Chet Arnold, and Cali Arnold; and his great-niece, Winslow Arnold.
He was preceded in death by his father, Glen Arnold and maternal and paternal grandparents.
Those who knew Michael understood that he was not one to seek attention or ask for recognition. He believed in handling things on his own terms and took pride in his self-reliance. His strength, perseverance, adventurous spirit, and unwavering sense of responsibility earned the respect of those around him and will remain a lasting part of his legacy.
Michael will be deeply missed, lovingly remembered, and forever honored by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
