Meryle Eugene Brown's Obituary
Meryle Eugene Brown, age 67, left Earth to spend eternity with Jesus on Monday, September 30, 2013 at his home in Moravia.
Meryle was born a twin to Hildred and Stanley Brown on July 27, 1946 in Ottumwa, Iowa. Meryle was a graduate of Ottumwa High School in 1965. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy at age 18 and received an honorable discharge in 1969. During that time he served his country in the Western Pacific during the Vietnam War aboard the USS Cleveland. During his deployment, his ship acted as an emergency port for Da Nang based helicopters and delivered ammunition to the Allied forces in Vietnam. Upon his discharge from the Navy, he became a student and graduate of Southern Nazarene University in Bethany, Oklahoma with a degree in business. He married Donna R. Oard on June 12, 1970, and together they had two daughters.
Meryle worked as transportation director for several major trucking companies in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, was traffic manager at Amana Refrigeration, and most recently worked for Pella Corporation having retired in December of 2011 after nearly 25 years. Meryle loved the out-of-doors. He was an avid fisherman all his life. He thoroughly enjoyed trout fishing with his brothers and good fisherman friends. He also loved to bass fish with daughters, Stacy and Shonna, and found joy in teaching his grandchildren to fish.
He was an active member of Lighthouse Church of the Nazarene in Moravia, Iowa where he held board and secretary position for several years. Meryle was compassionate about prayer and taught an adult prayer class for several years. He will be remembered as a prayer warrior to those who knew him.
He is survived by his wife Donna Brown of Moravia, Iowa for forty three years; two daughters, Stacy (Todd) Davis of Erin, Tennessee, Shonna (Garett) Wilson of Centerville, Iowa; nine grandchildren, Blake Wilson, Brenna Hibbeler, Hailey Hibbeler, Kollin Hibbeler, Mikyla Martin, Mariah Davis, Josh Davis, Lauren Davis, Ethan Davis; twin brother Beryle (Sharon) Brown of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, brother Larry (Pat) Brown of Ottumwa, Iowa, brother Jerry (Bev) Brown of Des Moines, Iowa, sister Betty Monohon of Pittsburg, Kansas, sister Pat (Dick) Parks of Des Moines, Iowa; also a host of nieces and nephews.
Meryle was preceded in death by his parents; his step-father Charles Bell; twin siblings Jackie and Jacqueline; brother Richard Brown and sister, Marilyn Wilkins.
Funeral services will be held 10:30 AM, Friday, October 4, 2013 at the Lighthouse Church of the Nazarene, 405 Myra Lane, Moravia, Iowa 52571 with Pastor Terry Chapman officiating. Burial with military rites will follow in the Hillcrest Cemetery, Moravia, Iowa. A visitation will be held on Thursday, October 3, 2013 at Lange Funeral Home in Moravia from 12 PM-8PM, with the family present from 6-8 PM. Memorials have been established to Hospice of Central Iowa who cared for Meryle so lovingly and may be given to Lange Funeral Home and Crematory, 1900 S. 18th St., Centerville, Iowa, 52544.
