Merritt Pollard, Jr.'s Obituary
Merritt Pollard, Jr., age 85, of Centerville, Iowa, died Sunday, March 12, 2006, at Golden Age Care Center in Centerville. He was born the son of Merritt, Sr. and Zola (Frans) Pollard on August 12, 1920 near Nehawka, Nebraska. He graduated from the Nehawka Community Schools in 1939.On February 14, 1942, Merritt was united in marriage to Laura Marie Hunt in Weeping Water, Nebraska. He worked for a time at McGraw-Edison in Centerville, Centerville Community Schools and later was a guard for Iowa State Penitentiary in Fort Madison, Iowa until he retired in 1986. He was also a farmer south of Centerville, Iowa. He enjoyed Antique Cars and Tractors as well as raising donkeys. Merritt was a member of the Solid Rock Church of God in Centerville.He was preceded in death by: his parents.Merritt is survived by: his wife, Laura Pollard of Centerville, Iowa; daughter, Denise Ballanger and her husband, Ray of Cincinnati, Iowa; grandchildren, Lucas, Lincoln and Logan Ballanger; step grandchildren, Randy Ballanger and Karrie Toohill; brother, Harold Pollard of Nehawka, Nebraska; sister, Ruth Cheippa of Jupiter, Florida.Funeral services will be held on Thursday, March 16, 2006 at 1 PM at the Schmidt Family Funeral Home in Centerville, Iowa with Pastor Kristopher Wattelet officiating. Burial will follow at the Livingston Cemetery southwest of Numa, Iowa. Visitation will be open from 1 PM till 8 PM on Wednesday, March 15, 2006 at the Schmidt Family Funeral Home in Centerville.
