Merrill Lawrence Robison's Obituary
Merrill L. Robison, 97, died peacefully on Monday, January 10, 2022, of natural causes at Kennybrook Village in Grimes, Iowa. He died following a very fulfilling life as a son, brother, husband, father, grandpa, and great grandpa to a loving family.
Merrill was born on June 27, 1924, to Clarence F. and Ximena A. (Stephens) Robison in Morris, Minnesota. He had three brothers, Harry V. (Jeanne, deceased) of Sioux City, Iowa; Harold C. (Bev of Knoxville, Iowa); and John A. Harold died in 1983 of colon cancer and John died in infancy.
Merrill graduated from Corydon High School in 1942. He enrolled at Iowa State University in Ames, Iowa and attended only his first term of school when he was inducted into the Navy on June 13, 1944. Merrill served on ship and on base in New Guinea and the Philippines. At one point, Merrill was the bartender in the Officer's Club because he was one of the few men who did not drink alcohol. He was honorably discharged on May 18,1946.
Upon returning home he began farming with his father. Merrill noticed that a neighbor girl had "grown up" while he was in the Navy and began dating Carol Dent. They married on March 28, 1948, at First Baptist Church in Corydon, Iowa. They had two daughters, Rebecca and Cheryl.
Merrill was baptized on October 31, 1937. He was the longest-lived member of the First Baptist Church in Corydon and served the church in many capacities.
Merrill farmed all his adult life. He had dairy cows and sold milk and cream. He raised hogs, beef cattle, corn, and beans. Merrill and Carol enjoyed spending many winters in Texas after they retired from farming.
Merrill was preceded in death by his wife Carol Robison; parents Clarence and Ximena Robison; and two brothers, Harold and John.
He is survived by Becky and Dave Sidney of Runnells, Iowa and Cheryl and Steve Tuttle of Urbandale, Iowa. He had four grandchildren: Erin Schettler, Matthew (Lindsay) Schettler, Heather (Mike) Nehre, and Sarah (Dan) Cooper. Merrill had six great-grandchildren: Laif Schettler, Andrew Nehre, Matthew Nehre, Lily Cooper, Jack Cooper, and Sam Cooper. He also had numerous nieces, nephews, relatives and was blessed with many friends.
