Merle Lynn Jensen's Obituary
Merle Lynn Jensen, age 77, of Plano, passed away peacefully at his home on Sunday, May 24, 2026, just four days before his 78th birthday. A man of quiet strength, steadfast devotion, and gentle routines, Merle lived a life marked by hard work, loyalty, and simple joys.
Born on May 28, 1948, to Lester and Fairy (Jane) Jensen, Merle was raised with the values that would guide him throughout his life-discipline, humility, and dedication. After graduating from high school, Merle answered the call to serve his country by joining the United States Marine Corps. He served faithfully and honorably, carrying the pride and discipline of a Marine with him throughout the rest of his life. Later, he pursued his education at the University of Portland, where he spent four years studying chemistry, a field that reflected both his sharp mind and analytical nature.
Merle was united in marriage to Joan Jensen, and together they built a lasting partnership grounded in love, commitment, and companionship. Though they had no children, the two shared a life full of quiet happiness and unwavering devotion to one another.
For many years, Merle worked as a chemical engineer for an asphalt company, dedicating himself to his profession until retirement. He was known as dependable, thoughtful, and hardworking-someone who took pride in doing things the right way.
Outside of work, Merle found comfort in life's quieter pleasures. He enjoyed watching classic western movies, tending carefully to his yard, and spending treasured time with his beloved dog. He appreciated peaceful days, familiar routines, and the comfort of home.
Left to honor Merle's memory are his niece, JoAnn (Mark) DeHaan; his nephews, Charles Jensen (Lynette Carr) and Michael (Katie) Jensen; as well as several extended family members and friends.
Merle was preceded in death by his parents, Lester and Fairy Jensen; his wife, Joan Jensen; and his brother, Gene & Mary Kay Jensen.
Per wishes, cremation has been accorded and there will be no services at this time. Memorials may be made to Charles Jensen, to be designated at a later date, and mailed to Thomas Funeral Home, ATTN: Jensen Family, 501 North 18th Street, Centerville, Iowa 52544.
