Melvin Milner's Obituary
Melvin Milner, age 91, of Cincinnati, Iowa, died Sunday, March 5, 2006, at Mercy Medical Center's Long Term Care in Centerville. He was born the son of John and Edna (Dudley) Milner on January 6, 1915 in Cincinnati, Iowa. He received his education in the Cincinnati Community Schools.On March 15, 1936, Melvin was united in marriage to Helen Maxine Johnson in Unionville, Missouri. Melvin started farming in the Rose Hill area near Oskaloosa, Iowa, than moved to Washington State where he was employed as a factory worker. He moved his family back to Iowa in 1951 and, in 1952 he began working with Kaser Construction Company where he was involved in road construction as a paver operator until he retired in 1963. He then returned to his love of farming and running a dairy. In 1977 he began working for the Appanoose County Road Department as a rock hauler. Melvin loved horses and his hunting dogs. He and Helen could be seen day after day riding their Tennessee walkers around the Cincinnati area. He raised hunting dogs and would take them to Field Dog Trials all over Missouri. Melvin was a member of the Cincinnati Christian Church and also attended the Seymour Assembly of God in Seymour, Iowa.He was preceded in death by: his parents; wife, Helen Milner on June 1, 1997; grandsons, Rusty Ballanger on July 7,1996 and Steven J. Milner on October 22, 2000; and a sister, Maxine King.Melvin is survived by: daughter, Linda Ballanger and her husband, Ralph of Numa, Iowa; sons, Doug Milner and his wife, Patty of Centerville, Iowa and John Milner and his wife, Lyla of Independence, Missouri; Eight grandchildren and twenty great grandchildren, five step great grandchildren and One great grandchild.Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, March 8, 2006 at 10 am at the Schmidt Family Funeral Home in Centerville, Iowa with Pastor George Varghese officiating. Burial will follow in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery near Cincinnati, Iowa.
