Melinda McElvain's Obituary
Melinda McElvain, 52 of Corydon passed away Thursday, December 20, 2018 at Wayne County Hospital in Corydon. Melinda was born on October 1, 1966 in Corydon to Harry & Janet (Johnston) Lucas. She received her education from Seymour High School, graduating in 1985. On June 2, 1990, Melinda was united in marriage to James McElvain. To this union came two sons: Skylar and Austin. Melinda worked several jobs throughout her life at Hy-Vee in Corydon, Centerville and Chariton. She also worked for Corydon and Centerville School Systems and the Corydon Head Start program. As a younger lady, Melinda worked at Bob's in Seymour. Although she wore many hats, her most noted and important job was taking care of her family. Melinda was a homemaker at heart. She enjoyed attending sporting events, she was an avid Kansas City Chiefs and Royals fan along with Iowa State University athletics. While in high school, Melinda participated in basketball, track, band and vocal classes. She and James enjoyed motorcycle riding to Sturgis, Arkansas and around the state of Iowa on their motorcycle. Melinda loved the farm and all of its animals. She had special affection for her dogs and cats. Survivors include her husband, James McElvain, sons: Skylar McElvain, Austin McElvain, parents: Harry & Janet Lucas and numerous extended family. She was preceded in death by her grandparents. Funeral service will be 10:30 am, Thursday, December 27, 2018 at Thomas Funeral Home in Corydon. Interment will immediately follow at Southlawn Cemetery. Visitation will take place on Wednesday, December 26, 2018 at Thomas Funeral Home in Corydon with the family present from 5-8 pm.
