Maxine Marie Higley's Obituary
Maxine Marie (Shamblen) Higley, age 87, of Greentop, Missouri passed away on February 24, 2026 at her home under the care of Compassus Hospice.
Maxine Marie Shamblen was born July 14,1938 in Emerson, Iowa to Lester Leland Shamblen and Vera Marie Shamblen. She attended school in a one room school house. The family later moved to Millerton where Maxine attended most of her schooling. When the family purchased the farm in Corydon, she attended and played basketball at Corydon High School and graduated in 1956. She had met her future husband Don Higley and they were married in September of 1956. They moved to Des Moines, Iowa where they were both employed at Meredith Publishing.
Maxine and Don adopted a daughter Dawn Higley in Des Moines in 1962. In 1968 they moved to Covina, California and had Darla Higley in 1963, Randall Higley in 1968, Ann Higley in 1969 and April Higley in 1992.
The family moved to Kirksville, MO in 1975 and Maxine worked as a rural mail carrier for 20 plus years. She loved her job and the people she delivered to. Her passions were her family, sewing and flowers!
Maxine is survived by her husband, Don; children, Dawn Moore, Randall Higley, Ann Higley and April Tagupa; 12 grandchildren; five great grandchildren; and other extended family and friends.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Lester Shamblen and Vera Shamblen, a daughter, Darla Perry; and son-in-law, Tyler Perry.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, March 2, 2026 at 1:00PM at Thomas Funeral Home in Corydon. Burial will take place at Corydon Cemetery following the service.
