Maurice 'Reece' Hudson's Obituary
Maurice "Reece" Hudson, age 97 of Centerville, Iowa, passed away, Thursday, October 13, 2016 at Centerville Specialty Care in Centerville.
Reece was born in Brazil, Iowa on September 2, 1919, the son of Robert and Margaret (Drew) Hudson. He graduated from Mystic High School.
Following high school graduation, Reece worked in the coal mines near the Bussey, Iowa area. He was united in marriage to Norma Gillaspie on September 2, 1941 in Unionville, Missouri.
Reece entered the United States Army in September of 1941. He served his country faithfully during World War II, receiving an honorable discharge on July 9, 1945.
Following his military service, Reece accepted a position with Norris Construction in Ottumwa, Iowa. He was employed with the company for several years.
Reece then relocated to Centerville when he began employment with the haydite plant. Eventually, Reece moved to California where he worked for a haydite operation until his retirement.
Reece enjoyed life to the fullest. Moreover, he had numerous pleasures in life, including coffee with friends at McDonalds, going on walks, napping with his cats, "putting around his workshop at home," and most notably, entertaining friends and family with his story telling. He was long time member of the Mystic American Legion.
He is survived by his daughter, Lauralee (Vernon Selvy) Hudson of Centerville, Iowa; one granddaughter, Dr. Jennifer (Ty) Paisley-Young of Grinnell, Iowa; two great grandchildren, Emma and Marcus Young; a brother, Richard (Jean) Hudson of Florida; sister, Lois Stanfel of Indianola, Iowa; a daughter-in-law, Rhonda Hudson of Grinnell, Iowa; a brother-in-law, John (Barbara) Gillaspie of Davenport, Iowa; and a special friend, Lois Swasick.
Reece was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Norma Hudson; a son, Marc Hudson; one brother, Russell Hudson; a brother-in-law, Robert Gillaspie; and an infant sister.
Graveside services with military rites will be held at 11:00AM, Monday, October 17, 2016 at Highland Cemetery in Mystic, Iowa with Pastor Lloyd Johnston officiating. A visitation will take place on Monday, October 17, 2016 from 10:00AM-11:00AM. Memorials have been established to the Mystic American Legion, Post #340, and may be mailed to Lange Funeral Home and Crematory, 1900 South 18th Street, Centerville, Iowa 52544.
