Mary Irene Zintz's Obituary
Mary Irene (Jones) Zintz was born on July 11, 1930, to Ora Howard and Alice Isabel (Wailes) Jones at their farm near Plano, Iowa, and died on Thursday, September 1, 2011, in the farmhouse where she had lived for 81 years. Mary attended kindergarten through 8th grade at Day School and graduated from Centerville High School in 1947. She earned a teaching degree from Centerville Junior College. On December 23, 1950, Mary and Wayne E. Zintz were married in Mt. Ayr, Iowa. They began farming the Jones family farm, which was recognized as a Century Farm in 1975. Along with helping Wayne on the farm, Mary enjoyed being a 4-H club leader, substitute teaching, selling real estate, and working at a local pharmacy before fully enjoying retirement with her twelve grandchildren. Mary was a member of the Plano Christian Church where she taught Sunday School. She sang in the Plano quartet and also sang duets for church programs. Mary and Wayne led many Bible Study groups in their home and Mary continued to be actively involved in Bible Study groups throughout the years. Mary is survived by six children: Patricia Moore of Sadler, Texas, Barbara and her husband, Lorne Johnson of Charles City, Iowa, Linda Sue Zintz of Plano, Iowa, Bill and his wife, Jill Zintz of Plano, Iowa, Sandy Zintz of Norwalk, Iowa, and Mike and his wife, Sarah Zintz of Centerville, Iowa; grandchildren, Sarah Moore, Rachel and Michael Hinsley, Elissa and Joey Cantrell, Anna Johnson, Emily Johnson, Brittney and Klark Telleen, Hilary Morris, Joseph Zintz, Chloe Zintz, Elizabeth Zintz, Emma Zintz, and Sophie Zintz; great-grandchildren, Max, Jack and Ali Hinsley and Benji and Jenna Cantrell; her sisters, Betty Greene and Bonnie and her husband, Chuck Pletke; sisters-in-law, Ruth and her husband, Ed Nash and Verna and her husband, Ron Freeman; many cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.She was preceded in death by her husband, Wayne Zintz on October 22, 1991, her son, John Wayne Zintz, and her son-in-law, Max Moore. Funeral services will be held on Sunday, September 4, 2011 at 1 pm at the Schmidt Family Funeral Home in Centerville, Iowa with Rev. Kay Singley officiating. Burial will follow at the Crossroads Cemetery near Plano, Iowa. Visitation will be held on Saturday, September 3, 2011 from 2 pm until 8 pm at the Schmidt Family Funeral Home in Centerville with the family present from 5 pm until 7 pm at the funeral home.Memorials can be made in her name and will be designated at a later date and can be left at or mailed to the funeral home.
