Mary Alice Stufflebeem's Obituary
Mary Alice (Baker) Stufflebeem of Centerville, Iowa, joined her Lord and Savior on Wednesday, August 24, 2022, at the age of 89 at the Centerville Specialty Care in Centerville, Iowa.
Mary was born January 20th, 1933 in a farmhouse near Seymour, Iowa, to Kermit Clifford Baker and Cleta Agnes (Brown) Baker. She was a graduate of Seymour High School in 1951.
Mary met Junior Stufflebeem April 19, 1952. They were united in marriage April 27, 1953 in Unionville, Iowa. To this union came five children: Larry (Loretta), Centerville, Iowa; Deborah West, Corydon, Iowa; Steven (Mikki) of Centerville, Iowa; Rodney (Pam) of Des Moines, Iowa; and Robert of Manassas, Virginia.
Mary worked at Brody's Clothing Store in the men's department and a photographer in Centerville. In 1952, she started work at Iowa Southern Utilities Electric Company as an account clerk. She did the bookkeeping for Stufflebeem Auto Repair. Mary started an in home child day care in 1956 till she retired. Through the years, she babysat multiple generations of families. She enjoyed serving others either by sewing, making a meal, or just a friendly phone call. Mary baked many cakes, cookies, mints, and baked goodies for family and others. Everyone loved her cake and mints. There was never a cake she could not make. Grandchildren chose what cake they wanted for their birthday, and Grandma made it. She also made wedding cakes and volunteered her family to help her set them up.
Mary went to GTBC with her mother in law. Mary accepted Jesus as her savior in the spring of 1953. Mary taught two year old Sunday school for 30 years. Mary was involved in the church ladies' group Willing Workers.
Mary is survived by her children Larry Stufflebeem (Loretta), Deborah West, Steven Stufflebeem, Robert Stufflebeem. Grandchildren: Patricia (Shane) Moody; Elizabeth (Caleb) Helterbran; Larry (Brooke) Woods Stufflebeem, II; Leslie (Nick) Moorman; Tammy West; Nathan; Jesse (Alesha); Jeremy (Maria); Dennis; Andrea Silva; Katherine Silva; Jessica; and Dylan. Great grandchildren: Juliana; Katelyn Moody; Kyson and Easton Woods; Taylor and Tim Ogg; Rachel; Chris Jones; Chassidy West; Alex Stufflebeem, Faith Stufflebeem, Virgil Lee Braxton Millizer; Eloise and Gavri Stufflebeem; Alicia Jamison and Soifia Velasco; many nephews and nieces.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents, Kermit and Cleta Baker; her husband of 43 years, Ralph Junior Stufflebeem; her son, Rodney Stufflebeem; her daughter in law Martha (Mikki) Stufflebeem; and her sister Zelda Baker.
Funeral service will be 10:00 AM, Monday, August 29, 2022 at Grace Tabernacle Church in Centerville. Interment will immediately follow at Taylor Cemetery near Unionville, Iowa. Visitation will be Sunday, August 28, 2022 at Thomas Funeral Home in Centerville from 1-7:00 pm, with family present from 5-7:00 pm.
