Mary Ellen Spring, age 87, of Centerville, Iowa, died Friday, September 12, 2008 at her home in Centerville. She was born the daughter of Dewey and Ollie (Repp) Houser on June 23, 1921 in Centerville, Iowa. She received her education in the Udell Community Schools.On January 28, 1941, Mary Ellen was united in marriage to Lionel Spring in Udell, Iowa. She was a homemaker and a member of the First Baptist Church in Centerville.She was preceded in death by: her parents; brother, Merle Houser and a granddaughter, Shelly Lynn Slay.Mary Ellen is survived by: her husband of over 67 years, Lionel Spring of Centerville, Iowa; a daughter, Mary Darlene and her husband, Carlon Slay of Centerville, Iowa; son, Doyle and his wife, Irene Spring also of Centerville, Iowa; brother, Dewey Houser of Knoxville, Iowa and a sister, Anna Marie Selix of Udell, Iowa; five grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren.Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, September 16, 2008 at 2 pm at the First Baptist Church in Centerville, Iowa with Pastor Lloyd Johnston officiating. Burial will follow at the Mt. Ararat Cemetery east of Centerville. Visitation will be held on Monday, September 15, 2008 from 1 pm till 8 pm at the Schmidt Family Funeral Home in Centerville with the family present from 6 pm till 8 pm at the funeral home.Memorials can be made to the First Baptist Church, Hospice of Central Iowa or New Hope Counseling Center all in Centerville.
