Mary Nadine Purvis' Obituary
Mary Nadine Purvis, age 86, of Centerville, passed away Tuesday, February 18, 2020 at the Golden Age Care Center in Centerville.
Mary was born on March 24, 1933 in Plano, Iowa, the daughter of Acie and Lena Alice (Inskeep) Guffey. She graduated from Centerville High School. Mary was united in marriage to Freeman Hiatt Purvis on October 21, 1950. To this union, four children were born, Gary, Terry, Jerry and Billy.
Mary was very active in raising show dogs - she really had a talent for it. She loved the beauty of nature, and was fond of feeding and watching the birds. She was the Treasurer for the Southeastern Iowa Kennel Club for many years. Mary was also a member of the First United Methodist Church in Centerville. Most importantly, she enjoyed spending time with her family.
Left to cherish Marys memory are her husband of almost 70 years, Freeman Purvis of Centerville; her children, Gary (Kathy) Purvis of Seymour, Terry (Patty) Purvis of Kellogg, Jerry (DeAnne) Purvis of Monroe, and Billy Purvis of Ankeny; two siblings, Acie "Chuck" (Lois) Guffey of Albuquerque, New Mexico, and June OConnell of Burr Ridge, Illinois; sisters-in-law, Karen Guffey, Florene Brown, and Maxine Purvis; eight grandchildren, Lisa (Shaun) Sage, Lesley Cook, Doug Cook, Stacie (Nate) McCoy, Jarid (Rachel) Purvis, Andy (Rebecca) Purvis, Beau (Megan) Purvis; and Cody Purvis; a granddaughter-in-law, Stacey Purvis; numerous great grandchildren, and four great great grandchildren.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents; a grandson, Joseph William Purvis; and two siblings, James Guffey and Jerry Guffey.
Marys life will be celebrated at 11 AM, Saturday, February 22, 2020 at Lange Funeral Home and Crematory in Centerville, with Pastor Pam Kranzler officiating. A visitation will precede the Celebration of Life service from 10-11 AM on Saturday at Lange Funeral Home in Centerville. Memorials have been established to either EveryStep Hospice, or to the First United Methodist Church of Centerville, and may be mailed to Lange Funeral Home and Crematory, 1900 S. 18th St., Centerville, Iowa, 52544.
