Mary Kay Potter's Obituary
Mary Kay (Lucas) Potter, 64 of Adel, Iowa passed away March 23, 2024 at her home in Adel.
Mary was born in Corydon, Iowa on February 8, 1960 to Francis and Darlene (Brown) Lucas. She joined her four siblings, Sharon, Steve, Janice, and Ann. She received her education from Wayne Community High School and graduated in 1978.
Mary worked in Wayne County from 1978 to 1992, serving as assessor from 1984 to 1992. She then worked in the Clarke County assessor's office from 1993-2003 and Dallas County from 2004 to 2015 when she retired. She loved the assessor's association and had numerous friends throughout the network.
While she worked as an assessor Mary met the love of her life, Ronald Potter. They were married on November 15, 1992 at Church of the Land at Living History Farms. Ron was Mary's world and she enjoyed the three years of retirement she got to spend with him.
Mary was always glad to see her friends and was easy to talk especially if it was a lunch date. She genuinely cared about what was happening in their lives. It didn't matter if you saw her last week, last month or last year, conversations were always easy with her.
Mary is survived by her siblings; Sharon Perkins, Steve (Connie) Lucas, Janice (Richard) Harden, Ann (Don) Stevens; nieces Stacy Henry, Susan (Wade) Duley, Sondra Wolfe, Eva Moore, Rachel (Dusty) Evans; nephews, Mike (Malinda) Perkins, Alan (Kim) Perkins, Bryan Harden and Tony Stevens, brother-in-law Don (Deb) Potter and numerous extended family members.
She is preceded in death by her parents Francis and Darlene, husband, Ron Potter, brother-in-law Rex Perkins, nephew, Mike Wolfe, niece, Cerena Stevens, great-nephew, Joe Henry.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 AM on Saturday, March 30, 2024, at Thomas Funeral Home in Corydon. Interment will immediately follow at Cambria Cemetery. Visitation will be an hour prior to the service from 9:30 to 10:30 AM at the funeral home.
