Mary Frances Lucas' Obituary
Mary Frances Lucas, age 100, of Machesney Park, IL, passed away Saturday, February 24, 2024 at home.
Mary Frances was born on December 5, 1923 in Appanoose County, the daughter of Theodore and Ruth Irene (Foster) Broshar. She married Eugene G. Main. They would have three children, Patricia, Carol and Larry. Eugene was killed in World War II in Okinawa June 1945. She would later marry Richard Lucas. To this union, two children were born, Rick and Sharon. She would also later have two daughters, Rose and Rexanne.
Mary Frances had many jobs over the years, but spoke often about being a C.N.A. at Golden Age Care Center and her 17 years as a greeter at Wal-Mart. She was well known for her costumes and hats as people entered Wal-Mart. Mary Frances was a member of the First Baptist Church in Centerville. After retiring, she moved to Illinois.
Left to cherish Mary Frances' memory are her children, Carol Ann Benac of Fruitland, IA, Larry Eugene Main (Norlene), of Buffalo Center, IA, Richard Lee Lucas of Rockford, IL, Sharon Lynn Thiltgen of Belvidere, IL, Rose Marie Moore of Belvidere, IL, and Rexanne Zanoni of Machesney Park, IL; eighteen grandchildren, Tony Benac, Terry Benac, Todd Benac, Ronnie Main, Randy Main, Renea Mitchell, Julie Loredo, Tim Lucas, Cassandra Lucas, Layton Lucas, Fred Shondel, Sherry Bogardus, Anita Gonzalez, Dawn Shondel, Robert Shondel, Ciera Miranda, Steve Zanoni and Chris Zanoni; fifty five great grandchildren; thirteen great-great grandchildren; one great-great-great grandson; her sister, Pauline Donovan; as well as many extended family members and friends.
Mary Frances was preceded in death by her parents, Theordore and Ruth Broshar; her husband, Eugene Main; her daughter, Patricia; her granddaughter, Heather Zanoni; her son-in-law, John Benac; great granddaughter, Danielle Benac; her siblings, John (Yvonne) Broshar, Floyd (Carol) Broshar, and Virgil (Joan) Broshar; a special friend, Leonard; as well as several extended family members and friends.
Funeral services for Mary Frances will be held at 12:00PM, Friday, March 1, 2024 at the First Baptist Church in Centerville with Pastor Tony Alexander officiating. Burial will follow the service at Main Station Cemetery, near Moravia. Visitation will take place, Friday, March 1, 2024 at the First Baptist Church in Centerville with the family greeting friends from 11:00AM-12:00PM.
