Mary E. Klum's Obituary
Mary Eunice Klum, age 101, of Centerville, passed away at Mercy Medical Center on Friday, August 6, 2010. She had been hospitalized two days. Mary was the daughter of Joshua B. Robinson and Clara (Hampshire) Robinson. She was born May 9, 1909 in Princeton, Missouri. Mary attended school in Princeton and graduated in 1926. While in school she played basketball and was in theatrical performances. Mary married Ned Porter Klum on June 26, 1938. To this union were born four children: Laurance Lee, Mary Kathryn, Robert Porter and Marilyn Jane. Mary had lived in Centerville since the summer of 1926. She was a member of the Drake Avenue Christian Church. Mary was a devoted wife and mother. She attended all the school activities that her children were in. She especially enjoyed watching her son, Robbie, play football. She had been a cub scout and girl scout leader. Mary was a life member of Eastern Star and had belonged to the TTT. She and Ned were always in attendance at Centerville's Pancake Day and Homecoming. Many people will remember Mary by her poetry. She had written poems of several local families and enjoyed sharing her gift. Mary was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Ned; a son, Laurance Lee (Larry); granddaughters, Bobbie K Labertew and Lisa Zierke; her brothers: Bill, Harry, Claude and Olin Clay; and sisters: Leona(Sis), Glisson; Francis Griste; and Mable Quigley. She is survived by a son, Robert (Robbie) and his wife, Nancy, of Moulton; a daughter, Mary Kathryn (Kathy) Labertew of Salt Lake City, Utah; and a daughter, Marilyn (Jane) Cassatt and her husband, Ray, of Centerville. Also surviving are three grandchildren: Michael Labertew and wife, Kimberly, of Park City, Utah; Kelli Klum of Centerville; and James Klum and wife, Amber of Moulton, Iowa. She also has six surviving great-grandchildren: Jennica, Lexie and Christian Labertew, Dlyan Zierke, Mickie McKinley and Kiera Klum. Funeral services will be held at 11:00am Wednesday at the Drake Avenue Christian Church with Reverend Jerry Weller officiating. Burial will be in the Oakland Cemetery, Centerville. Friends may call Tuesday with the family present from 6 to 8pm at the Lange Funeral Home, Centerville, IA.
