Mary Maude Jacobs' Obituary
Mary Maude Jacobs, age 91, of Columbia, Missouri and a former Centerville, Iowa resident, died Thursday, October 18, 2007 at West Village Manor in Columbia. She was born on May 18, 1916 in rural Appanoose County near Centerville, Iowa the daughter of James Herbert 'Bert' and Isis B. (VanNess) McHolland. She attended Wright School on Star Route near Centerville.On March 22, 1941, Mary was united in marriage to Clyde Jacobs, Jr. in Centerville, Iowa and later married Forest Jacobs in 1975. She was a homemaker and a member of Farm Bureau women's club. She gave how-to-demonstrations for 4-H meetings and planned entertainment activities for women's club events. Mary enjoyed her house plants, flower boxes, sewing, crochet, embroidery, latch hook, keeping scrapbooks from the Daily Iowegian, crossword puzzles, collecting poetry and reading. Many a family game of scrabble, hearts, rummy and Yahtzee were played at her kitchen table. Despite her very difficult lifelong anxiety problems, Mary had a ready laugh, a twinkle in her eye and a great sense of humor.She is preceded in death by: her parents; her husbands, Clyde Jacobs in November 1960 and Forest Jacobs in December of 1995; a brother, Alan Bradley McHolland.Mary is survived by: her children, Linda Green and her husband, Ken of Columbia, Missouri, Gary Jacobs and his wife, Susan of Derby, Iowa and Lee Jacobs and his wife, Barbara of Cathedral City, California; Six grandchildren and five great grandchildren.Funeral services will be held on Saturday, October 20, 2007 at 2 pm at the Schmidt Family Funeral Home in Centerville, Iowa with Rev. Lloyd Johnston officiating. Burial will follow in the Oakland Cemetery in Centerville. Visitation will be held on Saturday, October 20, 2007 from 12 am till the time of services at the funeral home.Memorials can be made to Hospice and may be left at the funeral home.
