Mary "Mildred" Findley's Obituary
Mary 'Mildred' Findley, age 93, of Des Moines, Iowa and former Cincinnati resident, died Sunday, February 29, 2004, at Mercy Hospital in Des Moines, Iowa. She was born the daughter of Jasper and Debrah (Wolfinger) Ellis on June 8, 1910 in Cincinnati, Iowa. She graduated from the Cincinnati Community Schools in 1928.She taught school in at the South Wilson and Friendship Rural country schools in Appanoose County, then on May 15, 1932, Mildred was united in marriage to John William Findley in Unionville, Missouri. In 1957 they moved to Des Moines, Iowa where she worked for over 15 years as a Nurses Aid at a local Nursing Home before retiring. She was a member of the Church of Christ in Cincinnati, Iowa.Mildred was preceded in death by: her parents; husband, John William Findley on November 15, 1967; brothers, Raymond and Harold Ellis; and 1 grandchild in infancy.Survivors are: her daughters, Phyllis McElderry and her husband, Robert of Des Moines, Iowa, Gertrude Longley of Centerville, Iowa and Mary Allen of Des Moines, Iowa; her twin brother, James Marion Ellis of Ames, Iowa; 9 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren and 9 great great grandchildren.Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, March 3, 2004 at 11 am at the Schmidt Family Funeral Home in Centerville, Iowa with Rev. Donald Hunt officiating. Burial will follow in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery near Cincinnati, Iowa. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, March 2, 2004 from 1 till 8 pm at the Schmidt Family Funeral Home in Centerville with the family present from 6 till 8 pm at the funeral home.
