Mary Clarissa Bristow's Obituary
Mary Clarissa Bristow, age 87, of Centerville, Iowa, died Thursday, April 26, 2007 at Trinity Pathway Hospice in Bettendorf, Iowa. She was born the daughter of Homer Aaron and Mamie (Harbold) Adams on September 9, 1919 in Plano, Iowa. After graduation from the Plano Community Schools at age 16, Clarissa then attended Iowa State University in Ames, Iowa. On April 7, 1940, Clarissa was united in marriage to Arthur H. Bristow in Centerville, Iowa. She was employed as a Postmaster for the United States Postal Service in Plano, Iowa for over 30 years, retiring in 1982. She was a member of the Plano Christian Church; the O.D.O Club, PEO Chapter and the Seymour Club. Clarissa enjoyed bird watching, knitting, sewing and playing cards.She was preceded in death by: her parents; her husband, Arthur H. Bristow on November 23, 1978; daughter, Maribeth Sheets; sister, Ruth Hodson and a brother, John Adams.Clarissa is also survived by: a daughter, Ruth Ann Pister of Moline, Illinois and a son, Don and his wife, Candace Bristow of Columbia, Missouri; six grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren.Funeral services will be held on Monday, April 30, 2007 at 10:30 am at the Schmidt Family Funeral Home in Centerville, Iowa with Rev. David Welch officiating. Burial will follow at the Crossroads Cemetery near Plano, Iowa. Visitation will be held on Sunday, April 29, 2007 from 1 pm till 6 pm at the Schmidt Family Funeral Home with the family present from 2 pm till 5 pm.Memorials can be made to either the Little Flock Chapel or to the Plano Museum Association and can be left at the funeral home.
