Mary Jane Borrall's Obituary
Mary Jane Borrall, age 93, of Centerville, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, February 17, 2026, at Golden Age Care Center.
Mary Jane was born October 3, 1932, in Chicago, Illinois, the daughter of Rudy and Mary (Byte) Matekine. As a young girl, her family later settled in southern Iowa, where she grew up and graduated from Centerville High School, forming lifelong roots in the community she would cherish for the rest of her days.
Mary Jane was united in marriage to Charles Borrall, and to this union two sons, David and Charles Jr., were born. The couple later divorced.
Faith was the cornerstone of Mary Jane's journey. A longtime and deeply committed member of First United Methodist Church, she was a familiar and beloved presence in the choir, lifting her voice in hymns that reflected the quiet strength of her belief. She also opened her home for Bible studies, welcoming others with warmth, conversation, and a steadfast love for the Lord. Her faith was not only something she professed - it was something she lived daily, guiding her kindness, generosity, and gentle spirit.
Mary Jane found beauty in simple routines. Living near the park, she made a habit of walking its paths, greeting familiar faces, watching the seasons change, and tending to the small moments that made life meaningful. She had a green thumb and took pride in her garden, where flowers and plants flourished under her patient care. She also treasured time spent at the card table, especially in laughter-filled games shared with her dear friend, Pat DeVore.
Those who knew Mary Jane will remember her as a woman of quiet grace - steady in faith, generous in spirit, and content in the everyday blessings of family, friendship, and community. Her life was a testament to the power of simple kindness and enduring devotion.
Left to cherish Mary Jane's memory are her son, David Borrall; as well as nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family members and friends whose lives were touched by her warmth and faith.
Mary Jane was preceded in death by her parents, Rudy and Mary Matekine; and her son, Charles Borrall.
Graveside services will be held at 11AM, Thursday, February 19, 2026 at Oakland Cemetery in Centerville. Memorials have been established to EveryStep Hospice, and may be mailed to Thomas Funeral Home, ATTN: Borrall Family, 501 North 18th Street, Centerville, Iowa 52544.
