Mary Leolla Besse's Obituary
Mary Leolla Besse, age 98 of Centerville, Iowa, formerly of Cincinnati, Iowa, passed away Saturday morning, January 14, 2017 at the Golden Age Care Center in Centerville.
Leolla was born on April 25, 1918, the daughter of Lester and Hazel (Darrah) Houser in Putnam County, Missouri. She graduated from Cincinnati High School. She was united in marriage to Glen "Boots" Besse on October 10, 1936. He preceded her in death on May 16, 2011.
Glen and Leolla owned the Sinclair Oil Bulk Company, and she was also a long-time employee of the JCPenney Company. Leolla loved decorating, cooking, and cherished spending time with her sisters and their families. She was a member of the First Christian Church in Cincinnati, and a 50-year member of the Eastern Star, and a 50-year PEO member.
Leolla is survived by her sister, Lesteretta Mathews of Centerville; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Glen "Boots" Besse; her parents, Lester and Hazel Houser; sisters, Lucille Mathews, Thelma Sparks, Bessie Mehrhoff, and Verbia Ross; a niece Vickie Mathews; nephews, Ron and Ralph Mathews; and a great nephew, Art Nelson.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00PM on Tuesday, January 17, 2017 at Lange Funeral Home and Crematory in Centerville with Pastor Kay Singley officiating. Burial will follow the service at the Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Cincinnati, Iowa. A visitation will take place on Tuesday, January 17, 2017 from 12-1PM at Lange Funeral Home in Centerville. A memorial has been established to the First Christian Church of Cincinnati, and may be mailed to Lange Funeral Home, 1900 South 18th St. Centerville, Iowa 52544.
