Mary Ellen Ashby's Obituary
Mary Ellen Ashby, age 92, of Centerville, passed away Sunday, December 15, 2024 at MercyOne Medical Center in Centerville.
Mary was born on July 24, 1932 in Centerville, Iowa, the daughter of Victor and Josephine (Bettale) Pasa. She graduated from Centerville High School. She was united in marriage to Clyde "Red" Robert Ashby.
Mary was co-owner of Ashby's Bakery with her husband, Red. She loved to bake, and continued to in retirement. Subsequently, she was also a home healthcare aide. In her free time, Mary enjoyed sewing, gardening, cooking, cutting out newspaper clippings of the people she cared about, and spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Mary was truly a one-of-a-kind woman, with a heart of gold.
Left to cherish Mary's memory are her children, Michael (Lora) Ashby, Rick Ashby-Pete Kahovec, and Vicky Ashby-Sande; honorary daughter-in-law, Linda Ashby-Mcfarlane, her grandchildren, Robert (Renee) Ashby, Roger Ashby, Christina Ashby, Aaron (Monica) Ashby, Angela Ashby-Grogean, Alyssa (Mark) Walz, Heather Sande, Jason (Kaitlyn) Sande, Shelly Ashby, Sharla Ashby, and Chris (Deb) Hobart; several great grandchildren; her sister-in-law, Elaine Pasa; former daughter-in-law Linda Ashby McFarlane; as well as numerous extended family and friends.
Mary was preceded in death by her husband, Clyde "Red" Ashby; her step-son, David Ashby; her son-in-law, David Sande; and her siblings, Joe Pasa and Victor Pasa Jr..
Per Mary's wishes, cremation has been accorded. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00AM, Monday, January 6th, 2024, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Centerville with Fr. Ron Hodges officiating. Pending weather, burial will follow the service at Oakland Cemetery in Centerville. Visitation will take place Monday, January 6, 2024 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Centerville with the family greeting friends from 10:00AM-11:00AM.
