Marvin Walter's Obituary
Marvin Walter, age 93 of Centerville, Iowa, passed away Monday August 3, 2015 at Mercy Medical Center in Centerville.
Marvin was born March 24, 1922 at the Caldwell Township in Exline, Iowa, the son of Virgil and Ruth (Johnson) Walter. He graduated from Exline High School, class of 1939.
Marvin entered the United States Army on November 14, 1942. He served in World War II and was honorably discharged on February 13, 1946. He then re-entered the Army on October 14, 1950, serving in the Korean War until March 11, 1958. He was honorably discharged as a Staff Sergeant. He worked as an Automotive Mechanic in both wars. After serving in the Army, he was an over the road truck driver for many years traveling all over the United States. He then worked for the Ford Garage in Centerville, in the Parts Department until retirement. He was united in marriage to Sharon Stickler Foster on January 30, 1993 in Udell, Iowa.
Marvin never met a stranger. He loved to visit with others. He enjoyed fishing, work, and woodworking. He also loved his dog, Sparky very much. He was a member of the Methodist Church in Exline, Iowa. He was also a member of the American Legion.
He is survived by his wife, Sharon of Centerville; His son, Marvin (Sally) of Medina, Ohio; a sister, Carletta Campbell of Davenport; a sister-in-law, Lemmelia Walter of Crossett, Arkansas; two brother-in-laws, Dennis (Francine) Stickler of Centerville, Rick (Shelley) Stickler of La Porte City, Iowa; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Virgil Delbert Walter.
Funeral services will be held at 11 AM, Friday, August 7, 2015 at Lange Funeral Home and Crematory in Centerville with Reverend Steven Lloyd Houser officiating. Interment will follow in the Zoar Cemetery in Exline, Iowa, with full Military Honors. A visitation will be held on Thursday at Lange Funeral Home and Crematory from 9 AM-7 PM, with the family present from 5-7 PM. In lieu of flowers, memorials have been established to the Zoar Church or to the Zoar Cemetery and may be mailed to Lange Funeral Home and Crematory, 1900 S. 18th St., Centerville, Iowa, 52544.
