Marty Joseph Norris Sr's Obituary
Marty Joseph Norris, Sr., passed away on Tuesday, September 22, 2015, in Omaha, NE. He was born at home in Thomasville, IL, on July 24, 1944, to parents John Benjamin Norris and Martha (Marty) Norris. His childhood on the farm with siblings John, Tom, and Mary and the influence of his parents was the source of his strong foundation and altruistic values. He maintained the principles of his close-knit Illinois neighbor community throughout his entire life. Marty graduated from high school in Virden, IL in 1963 and volunteered for the draft. He served in the Army from 1963-1966, driving trucks throughout Europe. After his honorable discharge, he returned home to central Illinois and began pursuing his dream of owning his own farm. His dream was built from hard labor, working two jobs at a time. In 1968, he married Anne Campbell, a teacher from Mounds, IL. They bought their first farm in Fillmore, IL, when they were 25, and later bought a farm in Orchardville, IL. In 1976, they moved away from their friends and family and bought a farm in Humeston, IA. His proudest accomplishments were the successes of his four children, Amy of Lake Worth, FL (Heriberto Coln), Tim of Fremont, NE (Heather), Marty of North Bend, NE (April), and Katie of Denver, CO (James Smith). He is preceded by his parents and wife, Anne. Surviving him are his children and 10 grandchildren, Abbie, Lillie, Jack, Maggie, Emmi, Maci, Alaini, Ethan, Anne and Julia, brothers, John Norris (Auburn, Il) and Tom (Waverly, Il), sister, Mary Little (Plattsmouth, NE) and special friend Mary Ann Bond (Centerville, IA). Marty was a man of strong convictions. Those who knew him best also knew his tender and generous heart. He will be remembered for his courage in always expressing his opinion, willingness to help a neighbor in need, his distinctive voice, and his love of storytelling. The wake will be held from 5-7 p.m., Saturday, September 26th at Thomas-Randolph Funeral Home in Corydon, IA.
