Martha Ellison, age 72 of Moravia, Iowa passed away Saturday May 10, 2014, at her home. She was born August 5, 1941 in Purdin, Missouri, the daughter of Ervin and Audree (Warren) Barrows. Martha was raised on the family farm in P Read Obituary
Martha and I along with others, never left a stone uncovered to benefit the town and the library, also the our historic depot and the Moravia Historical Society. Martha and my sister Dana, now deceased, had a life long friendship, so it was easy to get to know Martha well. She was kind, very bright, and had an excellent sense of humor. We miss her so much because she knew so much about running a library, and I for one, had no idea how, or had vague ideas. I was content to say and what day and what time do I need to be there. Now we need her to be here to help with the Betterment Committee which she had already started working on. We will do it and do it well, because she set the excellence bar high for us and we will do our best to meet it. Thanks for the memories, we had a good run, Fran B. Martha was one of my favorite teachers. She was kind, fair and always had a smile. We worked together for several years on the Moravia yearbook. She was so kind to my dad as a neighbor and a friend. I only meet Martha a handful of times,but she was a warm and loving person.You could tell she loved her family,and they,her.As every loved one who passes,she will be missed,yet celebrated for who she was and what she meant to the family and friends. I remember when we all would pack up the boats and head to Moravia for a weekend of skiing on Rathbun Lake, and we would stay at Martha's home. It was just like being at home. She was so warm and inviting. She would make us the most amazing breakfast before we headed out for the day. And then it was heaven coming back to her cozy peaceful home. She radiates love and goodness. She inspires me to be a light in this world like she was. Now she watches over us all from above. Martha, I was so sad to hear of your passing. You were a great teacher and after school became a good friend. Always helpful when I had question on flowers. I enjoyed your flower garden very much.
