Marlin 'Bucky' Henderson's Obituary
Marlin "Bucky" Henderson, age 88, of Centerville passed away Sunday, December 25, 2022 at MercyOne Medical Center in Centerville, following a brief illness.
Bucky was born on May 1, 1934 in Centerville, Iowa, the son of Sam and Helga (Almquist) Henderson. He graduated from Cincinnati High School with the Class of 1952. On February 2, 1957, Bucky was united in marriage to the love of his life, Mary Louise Sherwood. To this union, four children were born, Mike, Marla, Steve and David.
Left to honor Bucky's memory are his wife of 65 years, Mary Henderson of Centerville; his children, Mike (Carol) Henderson, Marla Henderson (Jeff Shurtz), Steve Henderson, and David Henderson; Grandchildren: Scott (Lexi), Bryan (Brandi), Travis (Cody), Trevor and Joslyn (John) Allgood, Kyle, and Ryan; Great grandchildren: Tyler, Brayden, Audrey, Bailey, and Braxton; as well as several extended family and friends.
Bucky led an accomplished life. He began working at Iowa Southern Utilities in the mail room and worked his way up to Senior Systems Analyst. Following an early retirement, he successfully served 2 terms as Mayor of Centerville, Iowa. He also served as a volunteer on the Centerville Fire Department before assuming the lead as Chief. As if that wasn't enough, he also served as President of the Little League Baseball program.
His hobbies included spending time with family and friends, baseball, and traveling to visit his children and grandchildren. Bucky was a family man, and will be missed by all.
A public viewing of Bucky will be held Thursday, December 29, 2022 at Thomas Funeral Home in Centerville from 9-3PM. Private burial will be held at Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Cincinnati. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The Bucky Henderson Memorial Foundation to be distributed according to Bucky's favorite charities throughout the community, and may be mailed to Thomas Funeral Home, ATTN: Henderson Family, 501 North 18th Street, Centerville, Iowa 52544.
