Marlene J. Owens' Obituary
Marlene J. Owens, age 81, of Centerville, Iowa, passed away Saturday, October 13, 2018 at Mercy Medical Center in Centerville.
Marlene was born on April 26, 1937 in Boxholm, Iowa, the daughter of Swen and Minnie (Olsen) Swanson. After high school graduation, she continued her education at Mundelein College in Illinois, earning her Masters Degree. She was united in marriage to William "Bill" Owens on September 2, 1956 in Des Moines, Iowa. To this union, two children were born, Doug and John.
Marlene worked at Iowa Trust and Savings Bank in Centerville as the Assistant Manager of Accounting for many years, and later as a loan officer. She was a woman of the old school, never speaking ill of anyone. A creative individual, Marlene enjoyed quilting, painting, drawing, sculpting, and sketching. She was a member of the First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Centerville.
Left to cherish Marlenes memory include her son, John (Melissa) Owens; her grandchildren, Jonathon (Heather) Owens, Holly (Tanner) McClure, Garett (Hannah) Owens, and William Owens; two great grandchildren, Faith Owens and Eli McClure; a brother, Wayne (Phillis) Swanson; a sister, Irene Peck; and her cousins, Vicki (Ray) Schrock.
Marlene was preceded in death by her husband, William "Bill" Owens; her parents, Swen and Minnie Swanson; a son, Doug Owens; and her siblings, Ruth (Charles), Viola (Don), Alma, and Earl.
Cremation has been accorded. A Visitation will take place on Wednesday, October 17, 2018 at Lange Funeral Home and Crematory in Centerville, with the family greeting friends from 1:00PM-3:00PM, along with a short prayer conducted by Rev. Jeremy McElvain. Memorials have been established to HCI Hospice Care Services, and may be mailed to Lange Funeral Home, 1900 South 18th Street, Centerville, Iowa 52544.
