Mark Richard Mendick III's Obituary
Mark Richard Mendick III, lovingly known as Marky, was welcomed into the arms of Jesus on February 28th, 2026 at his home in Moulton at the age of 7. His broken body now fully restored. He will forever be remembered by his smile that captured the heart of each person he met. Though he never used his earthly voice, Marky spoke with kindness and a touch of rascal; his personality being a true gift to those who knew him best.
Marky was born on July 8th, 2018 in Des Moines, Iowa. By God's miracle, Marky fought to beat the odds and be a light for Jesus through his life on earth. His early years were spent traveling for medical treatments, spending many months in New Orleans, LA, Austin, TX, Phoenix, AZ, Columbia, MO, Boston, MA and many other places – he was a traveling man!
Marky loved being a kid – he enjoyed fishing, duck hunting, state fair camping, playing T-Ball, golf cart rides to Wally's Ice Cream Shop, boat rides, shooting BB guns with his brother, working on the airplane with his Dad, spending time in the kitchen with Mom, listening to his sister, Magnolia, read him a book…for the 4th time, and giggling with his twin sisters while they pretended he was a jungle gym.
Marky was loved by his community and church family who covered him in constant prayer. They supported him with a 5k fundraiser each year – Moving Marky's Mountains. It was one of his highlights, taking the first steps of the race with Mom and Dad in his Upsee and giving high fives to the racers as they crossed the finish line.
Moulton-Udell School was like a second home to Marky, filled with love, compassion, acceptance, and encouragement the moment he got off the bus. He loved being an Eagle! At school, he was loved by all. There was always someone wanting to say hi, give a fist bump, or waiting to sit next to him at lunch. His classmates were special friends who brought him great joy. His teachers, nurses, and his beloved aide cheered for him, celebrated every hard-won milestone, and loved him fiercely in return. But perhaps no moment captured his school days better than recess, which always started with a kiss and noogie from his brother Maverick and ended with Marky in the middle of a pick-up game of basketball or soccer.
Though our hearts ache in his absence, we rest in the promise that Marky is whole, running free, and wrapped in the arms of his Savior. His life was not defined by limitations, but by determination and a spirit that refused to be dimmed. Until we meet again, we will honor him by trusting God with the mountains we face—just as Marky did.
Left behind to celebrate his life are his parents, Mark and Kassi Mendick; his brother Maverick; his sisters Magnolia, Monroe, and Montana; paternal great- grandparents, Paul & Jane Mendick and Barabara Lawrence; maternal great-grandparents, Jerry & Frances Probasco; grandparents, Mark & Teecie Mendick and Eddie and Melanie Guinn; uncles & aunts, Lexie & Tyler Johnson, Timothy & Bri Lawrence, Ryan Mendick, Zachary & Hannah Guinn, Kayci & Dakota Knowler, Kelsi & Adam Sankot, and Zebulon & Tara Guinn; cousins, Leighton, Vivian, Lawrence, Knox, & Theodore Johnson, Elliott, Cason, Carter, Georgiana, & Lena Guinn, Dakota Jr, Korali, & Oliver Knowler, Alden Sankot, EilaRose, Evelyn, & Everett Guinn; and special friends, Alicia Burgher, Jill Babbitt, and Tiffany Hamilton.
Marky is preceded in death by paternal great-grandpa, Conrad Lawrence; maternal great-grandparents, Merlen & Wanda Guinn; and cousins, Eden & Edson Guinn.
