Mark Matkovich's Obituary
Michael Mark Matkovich, age 85 of Centerville, died Sunday, December 31, 2006 at the Mercy Medical Center, Centerville.
Mark was born April 27, 1921, the son of John and Louise (Polich) Matkovich in Rathbun, Iowa. He graduated from Rathbun High School and then enlisted into the Marine Corp in June of 1944 through March of 1946 and served in WWII. Mark worked with his dad in the mines by their home for five years. Mark married Teresa Marie Chebuhar on August 21, 1943 at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Centerville, Iowa. Mark worked for John Deere and farmed for many years and loved to work in his garden, fish and hunt. He was a member of St. Anthony's and St. Mary's Catholic Church.
Mark is survived by his wife; Teresa, four children; Linda Matkovich of Centerville, IA, Mark Matkovich of Blue Grass, IA, Steve (Des) Matkovich of East Moline and Susan Matkovich of Edmonds, OK, two grandchildren; Amy Matkovich of Port Byran, IL and Emily Matkovich of Davenport, IA, three great-grandchildren; Katie, Madison and Mathew Matkovich all of Port Byran, IL, one brother; Ed (Mary Lou) Matkovich of Davenport, a sister in law; Jeanie Matkovich of Centerville, IA, a special friend Jessie Posovich and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; John and Louise, four siblings; Mildred Picalo, Bill Matkovich, Agnes Blackareczyk and an infant brother John.
Mass of Resurrection will be held at 11:30 AM Thursday, January 4, 2007 at St. Mary's Catholic Church with Fr. Ron Will C.PP.S officiating. Burial will follow at the Oakland Cemetery in Centerville, Iowa. Friends may call all day Wednesday with family present from 6-8 PM and a prayer service at 8 PM at the Thomas Lange Funeral Home, Centerville. A memorial has been established to the St. Mary's Catholic Church and may be left at or mailed to the Thomas Lange Funeral Home, 1900 S. 18th St., Centerville, IA 52544.
